The Yankee Candle Alpine Christmas Collection introduces new log cabin themed fragrances that take you from pine forests to cosy chalet. The Christmas 2019 range gives us 4 new holiday room fragrances to choose from, plus several limited editions.
A few hit an on-trend note (I suspect Pomegranate Gin Fizz will be a popular Secret Santa choice this year). Meanwhile, other scents combine the best of the regular Christmas candles.

What are the Smells of Christmas 2019?
Christmas traditionally smells like fresh baking, vanilla and warming spices, pine trees and berries. What stands out about the Yankee Candle Alpine Christmas collection is the amount of blending.
Yankee Candles can traditionally be split into floral, fresh, baking and fruit scents. To me, the 2019 holiday candles cross the boundaries more than most.
Alpine Christmas really does set out to create a backdrop. Little hints of linen drop into the cabin scents, and spices waft out into that Alpine forest. It’s as if there’s a whole Hallmark movie going on inside each jar, with must-have holiday scenes playing out in the background.
After Sledding
Come in from the cold and warm up with a muffin, or maybe a pancake stack. Essentially, Alpine Christmas After Sledding is here to make you hungry.
I think it’s a richer scent than the vanilla classics like Christmas Cookie. There’s a lot more going on here, and it’s the maple and spices that really stand out.
Alpine Mint
If you’re looking for an After Eight in candle form, here’s the one. Yankee Candle Alpine Mint layers up dark chocolate, mint and spearmint.
There’s a bit of vanilla in there too, and I couldn’t place the darker scent underneath it all – it’s actually rum. Overall it’s a cool, crisp mint candle but the other foody additions warm it up for midwinter.
Alpine Morning
I think Yankee Candle Alpine Morning is one of the freshest scents in the Alpine Christmas range. Though true to form, this scented candle isn’t just about clean citrus and pine trees in the breeze.
Cedarwood and floral hints round out this snapshot of life at the mountain cabin. It’s a bit like standing at the door, smelling the flowers and spices from the chalet as the fresh air hits you.
Candlelit Cabin
This Christmas 2019 Yankee Candle is just right for dark winter’s nights. Amber, patchouli and vetiver make Yankee Candle Candlelit Cabin quite a grown-up candle, but apple makes it smell like home. Like a log-built Alpine home, obviously.
But there’s also a hint of that clean ‘soap and fresh laundry’ scent that Yankee Candle do so well. If you like that kind of thing…
Christmas Celebration
If you love the scent of mulled wine, Yankee Candle Christmas Celebration is a great choice. It’s got a deep glühwein scent that will take you straight to a German Christmas market
Personally, I think this Christmas candle would be perfect for the very darkest, cosiest time of the festive season.
Evergreen Mist
Douglas Fir and pine meet eucalyptus and evergreen bark in Yankee Candle Evergreen Mist. This is a scented candle that’s all about the forest, not just the light scent of pine needles.
There’s a breath of freshness over the top of it though, and a hint of citrus in the background.
Pomegranate Gin Fizz
With the gin revival in full swing, Christmas cocktail candles like Yankee Candle Pomegranate Gin Fizz make the ideal gin gifts for Secret Santa.
Cranberry and orange round out the crisp gin and juniper edges. And it really does smell fizzy, too. I’m not precisely sure how they achieve that, but it’s a nice touch that sets this party-ready candle apart from the heavier scent of Christmas Celebration.
Steamed Vanilla Milk
In the middle of a spicy, rich Christmas Collection, Yankee Candle Steamed Vanilla Milk is one of the lightest fragrances. But it’s still got lots of warmth to it – and a bit of Alpine woodiness, courtesy of musk and sandalwood base notes.
Personally, I love the particularly American vanilla scent that you find in Yankee Candle fragrances. Steamed Vanilla Milk layers up vanilla, vanilla bean and almond, a promising combination for treat lovers.
White Fir
Yankee Candle White Fir is a powdery take on the fir tree. It’s plumped out with gardenia and citrus, for a breath of fresh winter air.
White Fir could make a great compromise if you love floral scented candles but want a wintery update.
Luckily these Yankee Candle Gift Sets Let You Try a Few Scents!
You can count on the unstoppable scented candle company to think up new ways to tempt us in. If you just can’t choose which new Christmas candle is the best, the 4 Votive Alpine Christmas Yankee Candle Gift Set makes a great way to try the 4 core scents.
And this beauty might just be my early Christmas present to myself. The gold ceramic tealight holder can come out again next year, so let’s pass this off as an investment purchase…
The Yankee Candle Festive Wreath Gift Box comes with 24 tealights:
- 3x White Fir
- 3x Evergreen Mist
- 3x Pomegranate Gin Fizz
- 3x Candlelit Cabin
- 3x Christmas Magic
- 2x Snowflake Cookie
So it brings together a couple of classics with the Christmas 2019 candles. And with a few of each tealight, you know you have another on standby if you find a new favourite!
What are the Best Christmas Candles?
I’ll be honest, I was hoping to find a substitute for what was, in my opinion, one of the best Christmas candles around – Yankee Candle Mountain Pine.
While Christmas Eve is, in my opinion, one of the most magical scents around, there was something special about that airy pine blend. It was fresh and breezy with an unmistakeable pine scent above all.
The Perfect Tree mixes pine with cinnamon, for a warm and welcoming Christmas candle scent that’s really pleasing.
Evergreen Mist really looks the part, and to be honest, I would buy a wall print of that label photo in a second. It’s got the warming holiday candle aroma of Yankee Candle Christmas Eve, and it brings you back indoors to that Alpine chalet. But you can definitely smell the fresh forest mist there too.
And let’s not forget After Sledding, which holds its own in the home baking category. It’s yummy.
You know what? I would be so happy if my holiday lodge smelled exactly like After Sledding too – because I can’t say no to maple pancakes. Let’s call it a draw.
